High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Terara Public School, HPGE drives our everyday teaching practices. We support every student to recognise their potential and provide them with the tools to turn that potential into growth and achievement.

  • Our teachers are committed to recognising and developing high potential and gifted students, ensuring that every learner is challenged and supported to thrive.
  • Our classroom practices are designed to nurture and extend the growth of high potential and gifted learners through engaging, evidence-informed approaches.
  • In our classrooms students feel supported and valued. We cultivate a strong sense of belonging and inspire students to take risks, think creatively, and collaborate effectively.

  • Learning groups are flexible, students lead their learning, and feedback focuses on strengths, clear goals, and opportunities for reflection and self-assessment.
Across our school

At Terara Public School, we value the individuality of every student. We provide a diverse range of opportunities that nurture learning, creativity, leadership, and personal growth across all areas of school life.

  • Our school recognises that every student is unique, and we offer flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop their strengths beyond the classroom.
  • Our school provides a variety of whole-school programs that encourage collaboration, confidence, and connection within our school community.
  • Our students are supported and extended through enrichment, extension, and extra-curricular opportunities such as debating, public speaking, and music workshops.

Across NSW

At Terara Public School, our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs that extend and enrich their learning. These opportunities help students discover their strengths, develop their talents, and connect with the broader NSW public education community.

  • Our students take part in the Premier’s Spelling Bee, which extends their vocabulary development, accuracy, and confidence in competitive settings.
